Institute of Advanced Broadcasting (IAB):
The Institute's primary focus is on the development of the latest generation of broadcasting applications in the areas of media, technology and film. The Institute is run on a commercial basis in partnership with the private sector.
IAB is a virtual centre operating within a unique environment called the “Hot House” with operational bases at the University’s Caerleon Campus and from 2010 at the new City of Newport Campus. The purpose of the Institute is to provide a platform for the private sector to develop new ideas, products and processes within the scope of Advanced Broadcasting.
IAB brings together business and academic expertise in order to explore new concepts in a creative environment called the “sandpit”. It is well understood that creativity flourishes in an environment which encourages innovation and experimentation – a characteristic of the much celebrated Art School tradition. The University at Newport educates a large number of highly creative and entrepreneurial people; the sandpit will enable academic staff, students and business experts to work together to develop new ideas.
A key feature of IAB activities will be to deliver high quality research output that will support and underpin the commercial developments and focus of the Institute. Building on the existing research excellence and reputation of the School of Art, Media and Design, staff will naturally produce publishable research output from the collaborative activities. Newport Business School has strengths in Marketing and Entrepreneurship Education and is well placed to support research into new business
models for IAB.
